Blueberry U-Pick Near Woodruff, SC: Supporting Our Local Farm Neighbors

Summertime in the Upstate is berry season, and there is nothing quite like pulling a ripe, dusty-blue berry straight off the bush. While we focus all of our energy here at Dirt & Grit Farm on raising summer flowers—like our fields of sunflowers and dahlias—our guests frequently ask where they can take their families to gather fresh fruit. We don't grow blueberries ourselves, but we are incredibly lucky to have some fantastic neighboring growers just down the road.

If you are looking to fill a bucket with fresh, sweet blueberries this summer, here are two of our favorite neighboring farms located within 15 miles of Woodruff, SC.

1. Mixon Farm — Gray Court, SC

Located approximately 11 miles southwest of Woodruff

Over in Gray Court, SC, our neighbors at Mixon Farm offer a great country experience (12104 Highway 101 South / 864-360-7064).

Starting in June, they open their fields for U-Pick blueberries. The farm experience goes beyond the berry patch—they also produce and sell raw local honey, farm-fresh dairy products, and other local goods. It is a peaceful spot to slow down, enjoy the rhythm of rural Laurens County, and take home some farm-fresh foods. (And if you visited them in the spring for U-Pick strawberries, you already know what a great spot this is!)

2. Bison Berry Farm — Enoree, SC

Located approximately 7 miles south of Woodruff

Bison Berry Farm in Enoree, SC (2425 SC-92 / 864-345-3121) is a wonderful neighboring farm that specializes in naturally grown berries.

Their seasonal U-Pick blueberries and blackberries open in June and offer a quiet, peaceful farm experience. In addition to their berry rows, they often have fresh farm eggs, raw local honey, and seasonal vegetables available. It is a fantastic place to slow down, enjoy the quiet Upstate countryside, and pick high-quality, naturally grown fruit.

Tips for Your Blueberry U-Pick Outing

Blueberry picking is a fun, screen-free way to enjoy a summer day outside, but a little preparation helps:

  • Always Call Ahead: Blueberry crops are weather-dependent and ripen at their own pace. Heavy rains can temporarily close the fields, and warm days can cause farms to be picked out early in the afternoon. Always call the farm or check their Facebook page for daily picking updates before making the drive.
  • Arrive Early: The best berries are often found early in the morning when the temperature is cooler and the fields are less crowded.
  • Dress for the Farm: Wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes you do not mind getting dirty. A sunhat and sunscreen are recommended since there is little shade in the middle of a berry patch.
  • Bring a Cooler: Berries are delicate and do not like to sit in a hot car. Bringing a cooler with an ice pack is the best way to keep your harvest fresh on the drive home.
